My half eaten lunch. Too stressed to eat.

If I know one thing about myself it’s that I am hardly EVER too stressed to eat, and the sight of this uneaten lunch instils so many levels of fear in me.

This is my forty-something Mum. She is running her first marathon in two weeks time, raising money for Children with Cancer, a fantastic charity that helps hundreds of kids fighting for their lives.
Click on the photo to donate, she really really wants to raise £2000 and she’s not far off so anything you could give would be amazing.

Please reblog, thanks everybody!

Rooting through the photos on my hard drive and found this picture I took last christmas. Three days until I see her again. Three days.

No doubt I will walk through the door and she will turn her nose up, sniff and stomp off in the other direction with a swish of her tail.
“Oh it’s you again. If you haven’t got food I’m not interested”

Collaborative letterpress project for our mothers on Mother’s day. Each word means ‘Mother’ in a different language.

My mum loved hers. They are framed in her bedroom!

Chicago, Susan and I

Cover, cross stitched and bound by hand.

Sugar spread, progressive photographs of building the word ‘susan’ from sugar crystals

Close up of a page of binary numbers

Chicago, Susan and I was designed as a limited edition book. It celebrates the font Chicago, designed in 1985 by Susan Kare and one of the first bitmap fonts that shipped with the original Apple Mac.

I designed, printed, cross stitched and bound this book as part of my second year Editorial module. One of my favourite projects.

These photographs are just a selection of the spreads in this book. All photographs are my own, as is this project.

From Hamlet Act III scene I
I needed an excuse to practise my hand lettering. Stressful studio and Hamlet quote? Perfect.
I’ll be honest, this is my first ‘proper’ hand lettering, and it’s a bit too girly looking.
But I’ll neaten it up and if I like the look of it maybe get some screenprints done. I know a few people who love a bit of Shakespeare.

Part of the letterpress poster the guys at Plymouth uni did for me to say thank you, framed and everything, it is now nestled next to my framed moulin rouge screen print, and Lido print waiting for a lush apartment so they can go on the walls :)

So last friday saw the lovely Adam James from Ampersand Magazine drive *4 Hours* to say hello and talk to us humble Plymouthians about anything and everything, design, teaching, non-design, Paris etc. And then drive *4 Hours* back. In one day. That’s quite a trek, so thank you Adam!

Found this gorgeous video today all about our humble letterpress studio here in Plymouth!

I’m happy to see such an interest in this wonderful craft, hopefully it will encourage and inspire people to do some letterpress of their own!

‘Vive Le Pigeon’ sketches

Seven Very Lucky Plymouth Pigeons, immortalised in HB pencil.

For starters — I think pigeons are fantastic. Not because of claw-foot or their poo, but because they did so many cool things for us in the past, like sending Really Important Messages back to base camp in WW2.

Pigeons have even won bravery medals.

These sketches are from Vive le pigeon, an editorial project completed last May.

Intended as a short study of the basic pigeon form, these sketches formed part of the project in the form of a booklet explaining that pigeons mate for life.

More photos of Vive le pigeon coming soon.

Just some letterpress

Magnets- essential letterpress equipment.

I love letterpress. I love the mess, the smell, the pace of working, the feeling that you are crafting something unique and special.

Last time I was in letterpress I took some photographs-

Test prints- Strictly these were stencils, so don’t belong in letterpress at all.

I will soon be starting a letterpress only project for submission into the ‘First Impression’ exhibition, which aims to showcase letterpress work produced in the Plymouth University workshop. More To Follow.
